風景をモノに落とし込む。風景から着想を得た表現。それ自体は、美術や工芸はもとより創作表現のひとつとして古くから今も広く用いられています。そんな風景の中でもとりわけ壮大で、曖昧で、美しく、誰もが日々の生活の中で目にする「空の色彩」という“無形の風景”を触れることのできるモノにしたい、という想いからこのプロジェクトは始まりました。 陽が沈んだ直後の空の色合い。日が昇る直前の空気感。いつもの日常にひとときだけ現れる、心奪われるような色彩をこの手に。 ずっと描いていた想いは、工房織座との出会いによって、ストールというひとつのカタチに仕上がりました。「織り」に魅せられ、100年以上前の織機をいまも丁寧に使い、その特性を活かして他にはない織物を作り続け、「織り」に挑み続ける彼らだからこそ実現できたと言っても過言ではありません。だからこそ、織りならでは、工房織座ならではの表現を共に追求しました。 このストールは一見すると後染めによって作られているように見えますが、２色の先染めされた糸の組成と織りのみによって作られています。その特殊な組成と織りによって、一般的な織物では有り得ない美しいグラデーションと優しい風合いを実現しています。 様々な空の色彩を切り取ったこのストールは、装いに彩り添えてくれます。

Incorporating a landscape into an object. Expression inspired by a landscape. These techniques have been widely employed since long ago, not just in fine arts and crafts, but also as a form of creative expression. I launched this project with the particular desire to transform the color of the sky—a formless landscape that is magnificent, ambiguous, beautiful, and seen by everyone, every day—into something that can be touched. The hue immediately after sunset. The feeling of the atmosphere just before sunrise. To touch with a hand the kind of captivating color that appears momentarily only once in a day. I was only able to realize this long-held aspiration after encountering Kobo Oriza, in the form of a shawl. It’s no exaggeration to say that only they could have made this possible; thanks to their fascination with “weave,” their meticulous use of century-old looms and their longstanding commitment to creating unique textiles to showcase the unique characteristics of such machines, and their unrelenting willingness to take on new weaving challenges. This is why we partnered together to strive for forms of expression unique to weaving and unique to Kobo Oriza. At first glance, this shawl looks as if it was dyed after it was woven, but in fact it is a yarn-dyed fabric, produced by composing and weaving yarns of two different colors. Its special composition and weave ensure beautiful gradations and gentle textures that cannot be achieved with conventional fabrics. This shawl, which evokes a variety of sky colors, elegantly embellishes any outfit.
