CASTINGは、それひとつで家庭内にある様々な家電製品を操作することができるマルチリモコンです。独自のセンシング技術により、テレビやオーディオ／空調／照明器具といった生活の中にある家電製品にその先端を向けるだけで、対象機器と相互に認識し、直感的に操作することを可能にしています。スマートスピーカーの普及と共に定着しつつある音声操作とは異なるインターフェイスとして、また複合的に用いることで、人とモノの新たな関係性を提示しています。その操作感や置かれる空間を細かに検証し、”手とモノと空間”に最適なデザインを創り出していきました。先端から手元に向かって、プレート状からスティック状にシームレスに変化する造形は、どんな手にも馴染み、操作・自立させる上での重心バランスを最適なものとし、個性的でありながら違和感のないデザインを実現しています。設計思想から細部、そしてその名称に至るまで細かにデザインを積み重ね、新たなインターフェイスが生まれました。

CASTING is a multifunction remote controller that enables a variety of home appliances to be operated with a single device. Unique sensing technology makes it possible to recognize and intuitively operate any kind of household electrical appliance, such as a TV, audio player, air conditioner, or lighting devices, by simply pointing. This controller offers new kind of relationship between people and devices, as an alternative interface to voice control, which is becoming increasingly common with the widespread adoption of smart speakers, or in combination with voice control. I closely verified the “feel” of operation and the space in which it is placed to create a design optimized for “hand, device, space” interaction. From its tip to its bottom, the controller’s shape varies seamlessly from plate to rod. The shape enables a comfortable fit with any size of hand and an optimally balanced center of gravity for operation and self-support. The design is distinctive yet unobtrusive. From the design concept to details and even the product name, I engaged in repeated revision and refinement, as a result of which a new interface was created.
